YELLOW SPRINGS BOOKFAIR OFFERS BARGAINS, COLLECTIBLES

Great bargains as well as rare antiquarian books await shoppers at the 30th annual Yellow Springs Bookfair. Hours are 9am to 5pm, Saturday, August 21, on the grounds of Mills Lawn School, 200 S. Walnut St., in downtown Yellow Springs.

Admission is free, and there is no charge to sell books. No registration is necessary.

More than 30 sellers, from six states as well as locally, will offer everything from comics, history and novels to fine collector’s volumes, according to long-time organizer Mary Alice Wilson, owner of Dark Star Books. Prices run from 25 cents to hundreds of dollars.

“Because of our continuing growth and reputation, we attract quite a range – from rare book dealers to kids on blankets selling their outgrown Nancy Drews or Twilight books,” says Wilson. People like the shady location, too. It allows for comfortable browsing and gives kids a place to play while grown-ups shop.

Early shoppers find incredible bargains, Wilson advises, but the number of books and comics guarantees good shopping all day.

Seller setup for the bookfair begins at 7 a.m. No one is allowed on the school grounds before that time. For more information, call Dark Star Books at (937) 767-9400 or Super-Fly Comics and Games at (937) 767-1445.

Mr. Eko Threatens To Picket!

April 03, 2010

bag pictures 003The other day Mr.  Eko and I were discussing the perils of book shopping and shopping in general.  He never has enough paw space to carry around all of his favorite books and cheezburgers.  He demanded I fix the problem immediately or he would find somewhere else to fling his litter.

Introducing the Dark Star tote bag! Mr. Eko says they’re perfect for hauling books around.   I think he prefers to take naps on it.    This bag has many more useful features for humans.   Once you purchase a bag then you’re enrolled in our new customer give back program.   The immediate rewards for joining are:

We also plan to have special prizes and rewards for members in the months to come.  Our new bags cost 6.00 or you can get one for free if you spend 40.00.   Stop by and check them out!

Among those who have praised the book are Kim Stanley Robinson, a winner of the Hugo, Nebula, Locus and World Fantasy awards, who writes that Like Mayflies in a Stream is “an exciting and very human story, set in a fascinating time and place.” New York Times bestselling author Sabrina Jeffries says that “Shauna Roberts depicts Ancient Sumer in such believable detail that you can practically hear the rushing of the Euphrates and feel the hot desert air on your skin,” and Richard R. Zettler, Associate Professor of Near Eastern Languages & Civilization at the University of Pennsylvania, observes, “Roberts deftly fleshes out tales of the hero-king Gilgamesh, who lived ca. 2900 BCE, bringing the people and places in that epic to life. She shows that a story your teachers described as “timeless” does, in fact, bridge the ancient and modern. The setting may be alien, but the people and their emotions are familiar and intense!”

We hope you can join us for this special event. For more information about the book-signing, please email books@darkstarbookstore.com or call us at (937) 767-9400.
